Very soon apartments will be equipped with Smart locks
accommodating built-in cameras. The Latch smart lock "M-Series"
is a mortise-style deadbolt designed for apartments and businesses, and it has
a built-in camera to keep an eye on who's coming in or going out.
Smart locks aren't made for just smart houses, they can fit into
smart businesses too. Talking about: the M-Series Smart Lock from
'Latch'; a startup founded in 2013 by Apple alums. With
Bluetooth and companion app, the M-Series is an enterprise-focused deadbolt
invented to help business-owners offer smarter, keyless access to tenants,
employees, and customers.
Apart from using a key to unlock it the traditionally, you can
open up the M-Series lock by waving an NFC-equipped card in front of it, or by
typing a code on the touchscreen. Other then that, you can use the companion
app that connects to the lock via Bluetooth to let authorized users in with
just a tap.
Also, the lock includes a built-in wide-angle camera that snaps a
photo every time someone opens the lock. Wich is an interesting addition given
the popularity of smart and camera-equipped doorbells like Skybell HD and Ring.
The design of the deadbolt is notable too. The "M" in
M-Series stands for "mortise;" a recessed deadbolt design that
separates the cylinder from the latch. Most of smart deadbolts are not designed
to work with doors prepared for locks like that, which might lead Latch to
cooperate with businesses to get its smart lock into hospitals
and hotels.
